Workshops for Kids

From the time I started writing and illustrating books for kids, I’ve been visiting classrooms, primarily students from K-5th grade. When I visit, my hope is to make the process of making books exciting and easy to understand. I like to encourage the kids, through my own unbridled enthusiasm, to embrace their own creativity, to believe in their own voice and to engender enthusiasm for reading. My programs vary depending on the age of the students and the needs of the teachers involved, but generally include a slide presentation, and illustration game that encourages visual narrative and a Q and A session. I’ve done singe class and full day visits, as well as multiple workshops on illustration and writing books over the course of several weeks.
